Unlike traditional Iranian made carpets, quality of Nain rugs are determined by the number of lines or strands in the fringe or as it called in Persian, La.  The lower the number of La the higher the quality of Nain and to put it in a simple text; Nain carpets are 12, 9, 6 and 4 liner or La with 4 La being the superior, 6 La excellent, 9 La commercial level and 12 La poor quality.
